Mark Riley

Mark is one of the original KOB characters and is featured in The Kids on the Block program on cerebral palsy, in programs about emotional disturbance, sibling of a child with a disability, visual impairment, and automobile and bicycle safety.

Fun facts about Mark:

  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • Mark was born with a physical difference called Cerebral Palsy (CP). Because of his CP, Mark doesn't walk and instead uses a really cool wheelchair which he calls his "cruiser"
  • Mark talks a little differently because of his CP
  • Has a twin brother, Mike, and a younger sister Suzette
  • Best friend is Renaldo Rodriguez
  • Plays wheelchair basketball
  • Loves to pop wheelies and go camping
  • Favorite colors: red, white and blue
  • Loves to eat pizza and chocolate chip cookies, apples and spinach

Melody James

Melody is one of the original KOB characters and is featured in programs about divorce, physical differences, bullying, bereavement, children's mental health, vehicle safety, brain injury prevention, making the right choices, and organ donation program.

Fun facts about Melody:

  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • Lives with her 4 brothers, Todd, Shaun, Daniel and Kenneth. Her fifth brother Darryl, died in an automobile crash two years ago and her family had a very difficult time dealing with is death.
  • Best friend is Brenda Dubrowski
  • Plays hopscotch and soccer
  • Loves roller skating, modern dance and ballet
  • Favorite color is red
  • Loves to eat cheeseburgers and ice cream, oranges, and raw veggies with dip

Jason Robinson

Jason is featured in the Kids on the Block programs about childhood obesity, personal safety, dental hygiene, and self-esteem.

  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • Has a great sense of humor
  • Very kind and curious
  • Loves photography

Brenda Dubrowski

Brenda is featured in the Kids on the Block programs about divorce, asthma, cerebral palsy, children’s mental health, combating childhood obesity, coping with crisis, deafness, down syndrome, dwarfism, gifted & talented, learning differences, pediatric hospice, safety and visual impairment.

Fun facts about Brenda:

  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • Loves to be the center of attention and enjoys singing (even if it isn’t on key)
  • Best friend is Melody James

Renaldo Rodriguez

Renaldo is one of the original KOB characters and is featured in the Kids on the Block program on blindness, physical differences, and fire safety.

Fun facts about Renaldo:

  • Cannot see because he has been legally blind since birth
  • His family is Puerto Rican
  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • Has one brother, Josué
  • Best friend is Mark Riley
  • Plays beeper ball and checkers

Joanne Spinoza

Joanne is featured in the Kids on the Block programs about personal safety, child abuse, autism, childhood cancer, diabetes, Spina Bifida, substance abuse prevention, self-esteem, and fire safety.

Fun facts about Joanne:

  • 14 years old
  • Always talks to trusted adults when she’s having a hard time
  • Is very open to learning new information
  • Is an only child
  • Loves soccer, cheerleading, and writing for the school newspaper
  • Loves listening to music and dancing
  • Best friends with Clare

Jinx Braxton

Jinx is featured in the Kids on the Block programs about multiculturalism, financial literacy, and gifted and talented.

Fun facts about Jinx:

  • 11 years old
  • Jinx is her nickname – she was born on July 13th, which fell on a Friday
  • Her real name is Irene
  • Straight-A student and in the gifted program at school
  • Loves to read
  • Likes riding her bike and playing with her friends
  • Likes to bake cookies
  • Built a treehouse and a go-cart

Nguyen Huy Nam

Nam is featured in the Kids on the Block programs personal safety, multiculturalism, childhood cancer, diabetes, child abuse prevention, sun-heat-water safety, and cyber bullying.

Fun facts about Nam:

  • 11 years old
  • 5th grader at Woodburn Elementary
  • He is Vietnamese-American and his parents moved to United States from Vietnam before he was born
  • Favorite foods are sticky rice cakes and pizza
  • Loves playing video games

Clare is featured in the Kids on the Block programs about prejudice, bullies, school safety, ostomy, gangs, and violence.
